Your website sucks

my website doesnt. i just need to figure out exactly what my thesis is, and how to best proove it. However design-wise its pretty. It has a concise theme based around retro computers, and is featured on every single page.

my website already uses most of the suggestions listed on the page, however i do like the idea of the breadcrumbs

i already employ most of the techniques discussed by liu.

as for jers, he/she has a few very good, well researched points

looking at the f shaped patter document, i am going to make most of my posts have text on the left hand side, and put in images and placeholders on the right.

seeing as i am creating a document that is targeted at fighting computer illiteracy, i think that it is probably a good idea to look at the ideas presented in the document concerning low literacy users, and how they differently look at documents.

  1. the small text gives it a very nice look, but adds time in terms of reading. you might make more obvious headers of some sort within each page, or throw in some design aspect to highlight the most important areas. Also-there are likely a milliion sites having to do with facebook and computer literacy, link one of those

  2. I like:
    the overall design
    - layout and appearance are very appealing and impressive
    content seems well organized

    Areas to improve on:
    - the mac and windows images on the right side of the page seem somewhat arbitrary and appear on multiple pages for some reason
    - the text needs to be a little bigger and perhaps a different font

  3. I do really like the look of your website. it follows a backwards F-shaped pattern, i don't exactly know if it makes a difference but just in case thats important. although it is similar to your previous website i believe that this layout works and is easy for any reader to navigate through. Also, the pages would be easy to print out if needed, since people do prefer a print out. Lastly, i like the concise paragraphs that cut to the chase.

  4. Overall design is good, easy to read. Multimedia, About Me, Home, and Basic Fixes are the same page, just to let you know. I'm going to assume that was planned though. Nice BS'ing. Other than that, I can't think of much. I'm jealous of your skills, and I think you should make my website for me. Not that it's on this website, but you might want to make the little flash thing on your main main page take less time to bounce down. I can't stand waiting for that shit.

  5. 1.)Is it easy to navigate around in?
yes it is extremely easy to navigate around in. the buttons are huge and there arent too many around so it isnt too confusing
2.) Is there symmetry from page to page (One can expect where the navigation on the next page. etc)
yes lots of symmetry including the text being centered and the pictures on the right.

3.) Does the Background and animation interfere with the main purpose of hypertext?
not at all, the top navigation part looks really cool but my eyes instantly move onto the text. the simple white background allows for the text to seem like the most important part of the page (which it should be)
4.) Does the text and overall look of site match the intended audience?
    yes
5.)Does the hypertext offer many different ways to reach differnt places?
    yes

  6. Alec-
Your site was definitely eye catching and well organized. The colors were very complimentary and snazy. I like they layout of each page but sometimes with the pages that incorporated the same picture I wasn't 100% sure if I had actually clinked the link to a new page. You did a nice job of introducing your topic and making it clear as to what you were presenting to your audience.
