IResign - Allison

To the human population -
Stop staring. Stop judging. Stop being critical. Why must everyone be so judgmental all the time? Most people believe that within minutes you can judge a person’s character and know exactly who they are. How is this even possible? What is the criteria to judge someone without a preconceived notion? Is it possible to judge someone, while knowing their reputation? While on the subject, reputations suck too! They stick with everyone for a long time and are almost impossible to shake off, unless you move to a new environment. Whether you’re labeled as a slut, nerd, druggie, or even ‘Ms. perfect,’ it’s near impossible to break any of these molds. Why does this have to be so hard? Can’t we just be whoever we want to be? Apparently not since once we make our minds up about something, it’s hard to change it. Reputations, whether true or false are damaging. Maybe because we start to believe in our own reputation and question our own identity. The only way to stop it is to cease judging people so harshly. Either way, it causes stress and pressure. Pressure to keep up a certain image or the pressure to break that image. It’s time consuming and overwhelming. The problem with all this is no one can be true or who they really are. Everyone’s afraid of being judge and their actions are based off of it. So how are we supposed to know if people are true or fake. We don’t. No one is 100% comfortable with who they are or the reputation they carry or carried with them in their past. Reputations based on rumors or facts can kill someone. This is where stereotypes come in. Stereotypes based on who you are by how you look or act. Just because some blondes are stupid does’t make all blondes stupid. But make one judgement and assumption and it will come together to create a stereotype. One that might even be false and harm another person. Why do we do this? Because we are insecure. Everyone wants to feel better about themselves. The only way to do so in this society is to judge others. The never ending cycle will continue unless we stop it as a collective whole. I don’t see that happening anytime soon. It has been a problem in our society for all of history. Look at civil rights, and even today with gay liberation. It is still a fight that many people are trying to deal with today; being judged by their sexual orientation. If criticism and judgements dictate or actions then are we living for ourselves or to please others? Or are we going through the motions to prevent being teased? Above all the pressure to be the best and have all is affecting the attitude of humans and our country. Everyone just needs to be more accepting.
