Does My Website Suck?

One thing that does not suck about my website is that someone can easily identify my topic by quickly looking at headings on the first page. Also, I feel that the navigation is clear and easy to use. Users will know where they are in the site and always have an easy way to get back to the previous page or navigate further into the site.

Some things that aren't good about my site include the fact that the page does not quite fit onto the screen all at once and users have to scroll to the side to view some text. Also, my links don't change color for visited sites so that may be confusing for users.

Most people don't look at anything on the page except for the main content in the middle because they have trained themselves to ignore the sidebars since they are usually filled with advertisements. It is also important for viewers to have a home page link on every page of the site so they can quickly link back to the beginning. The Liu article suggested that this generation of readers lacks the ability to read deeply due to the advancement sof digital media. On the other had, this new media has allowed people to specitfy content for different groups. The Nelson article said that people generally spend 4 seconds looking at a website before leaving and count that as "visiting" the site.

  1. I really like the topic of your hypertext and the first page describes exactly what the site as a whole will be about. Your choices of design (the notebook and chalkboard bacground and the sticky notes) are very creative and make it very unique. I like how the navigation bar is the same on every page and how you also put the stick notes at the top to link to pages not covered in the navigation bar. Your pictures help enhance the strength of your topic as well. I would suggest trying to make your website a little smaller since the reader has to use the bottom cursor to see the whole thing. Also, you may want to add links within your text so the reader has another method of gettting to other areas of your site. Good job!

  2. Marie, Great site! I really liked the backgrounds and the sticky notes that roll over. You obviously put a lot of time and effort into this site. the only issues i have with it are the size and color. The titles are far too big, making the site extremely horizontal and makes me scroll sideways to read information, which can be frustrating. Also, the links need to be more apparent, the grey color of them makes them hard to notice, links should STAND OUT! make them bright yellow or red or something that'll stand out against your background. But really the scroll over notepads and the navigation STRUCTURe are amazing. Very easy and understandable to use, even for people as incompetent as me. Great site, gets to the point, easily understood what you are meaning to talk about.

  3. The navigation on the side is grate, I love that. I like that the background changes for the next level, the background is supper appropriate. I do get a little lost in the navigation when it changes so drastically. There are a few links that are hidden in the text (administrator page) try a color that stands out a little more. The backgrounds are good, lined paper rocks. Text is clear and easy to read. Navigation is good; try a little more cohesion with the two formats. It a little hard to work with the sizing, the fount is quite large and the page does not fit well in the screen. The topic is clear and over all the page is grate.

I really like alot of things about your page. You have awesome backgrounds and links. I like the backgrounds,(how they look like chalkboards)...and I like the little sticky pad thing that shows you which page you are. Some of the colors get a little lost in the colors. The site looks great. It's really concise and I like that. It doesn't ramble on and it's easy to follow.

    Good Job
