Allison's Website

http://webpages.scu.edu/ftp/amcpartland/home.htm

Why my website does suck:
- my background graphic doesnt contrast well against the text, making it hard to read
- my site has too much text on certain pages

Why my website doesn't suck:
- my site's navigation is predictable
- my site's important content fits in the screen
- has media clips that you can watch

Ideas how to make website better:
- no page should have a link to itself
- breadcrumb trails: show the direct path back to the homepage

-people like to browse: connect a lot of links
-people read things once: put the most imporant information first

-tagline: shows what the site is about
- show numbers as numerals

  1. I think your website has a really good purpose. As you know, the pink background is kind of hard to look at slash read text on. But it's ok it's super cute! I think that your menu bar should stay in the same spot throughout your pages. I like how you organized everything but maybe you should resize the thunder thighs picture!! Those babies are huge and they overtake the page! I REALLY like the videos you chose to use. GREAT SITE ALLISON!

  2. 1. Is navigation easy?
The navigation bar is easy to locate because it looks the same on each page but having it placed in different positions on the page is unnecessary. By putting the bar in the same location on each page navigation would be easier.
    2. Can you spend less than 5 seconds on each page and still comprehend the purpose/information?
Generally it is easy to understand what Allison is trying to say in less than five seconds on each page.
    3. Are keywords/point highlighted?
Keywords/points are highlighted and it makes is easy to understand and the most important parts.
    4. Is the website visually stimulating and do the images work?
the images and videos are stimulating and make the website more welcoming however they are not spaced well on the page. either make the pictures bigger or reorganize there location in relationship with the words.
    5. Are there logical categories with the information within the categories making sense?
the navigation bar tabs are a little general and are not easy to understand just by reading them. make the tabs more informative of what you will see if you click the button without actually clicking the button.

I liked the website I think just a few improvements would make it that much better. The information you wrote down was informative and important to the subject. Way to go.

  3. I like your website! I think the pink background goes well with the theme because it is a girly color. I think to enhance your page though fix it so the text is more visible. It's hard to read with the background so dark. Also, scale down your images so you don't need to scroll down or to the side to see the whole thing. And maybe keep the navigation bar in one location instead of in different places on different pages! It is visually appealing though, and the video is great. For the homepage, you might want to break up the big chunk of text so its easier for readers to quickly scan instead of being overwhelmed with a huge chuck of writing.

  4. Dear Allison,

    I really like your website.
    Good things:
    - the videos make website more interesting
    - bolding/italicizing/enlarging certain words is effective in drawing my eye to the meat of the content

    Things to improve:
    - I suggest a lighter shade of pink for greater contrast to the black writing. it would be easier to read
    - try to make your pages more compact so I do not have to scroll around as much
    - keep the tabs in the same place on every page
    - give every page its own headline
    - dont' say girls, we are not little girls anymore. say women, females, anything else. however, if you are talking about a specific age group say that ie "body image for high school girls"... which leads to my next point
    - your headlines/home page do not easily tell me what your main point to the website is

  5. The topic is interesting. I like how you have certain words that are bold because they attract the eye when someone is just scanning what you are saying. Some pictures throughout your site do not come up. The constant move of your navigation bar is also very confusing when looking for it. The color use of your font and background work well making it easy to read. The use of colors and pictures gives the site a filling view, not giving off any blank space.

  6. This is definitely one of the most pressing topics in America. You don't have a lot of each text on the page, which may compel the reader to take the time to read everything there. I would read the entire thing, based on the sources we saw in class today, a lot of text isn't appealing, but that isn't a problem for you. The background color may be a little hard on the eyes, but the text is still quite visible so a change in color is completely up to you. Nice use of the videos on each page to emphasize the point that you are trying to make (specific to each page you had). Your use of certain words in bolds make your key points stand out more, which is very good (you might want to link those up to the pages that you have made). Another note, keeping your navigation bar in one place may be a lot easier on the users on this site, looking and finding it on different places on each page may be a little aggravating to the visitors of your website. Other than that, great idea and organization, this will be a great website.
