Research Hypertext

For my hypertext I am going to further explore and expand upon Cory Doctorow's depiction of treatment of prisoners in their country of residence. During the novel, Doctorow graphically shows prisoners being mistreated and not being offered just rights. Their rights as civilians and citizens of the United States are undermined and often not even considered. The DHS is shown waterboarding Marcus which is obviously a sign that Doctorow thinks the actual treatment of prisoners in the United States by those people who hold positions of power are unfair and often corrupted. In doing research I have discovered there are a fair number of rights, acts, and laws that have been put into place to ensure the safety and security of the world's population. However, it also appears a lot of these laws, rules, and regulations are not followed--or so is suggested by Doctorow in "Little Brother." Obviously in times like the Holocaust International Law was not properly followed or fudged to say the least. As early as the Civil War prisoner rights were violated and often led to excessive number of unnecessary deaths. Doctorow portrays the United States government as abusers of power who do not abide by current laws protecting the safety of prisoners throughout the world.
