Hypertext Proposal

For my next analytical hypertext, I want to focus on the theme of propaganda. The question I would like to research would be, How does the propaganda of media affect the citizens and entire US society? I will use Corey Doctorow's book, Little Brother as a literary source and original contribution to follow. In doing so I will give examples of media biases and the changes in society due to this propaganda. I think Doctorow clearly answers this question in his book through the actions of his characters. He demonstrates that people can be influenced by messages and what they are told in the media, through televisions, films, newspapers, radios, billboards, and other common mediums. For example, Marcus’s dad was convinced that these kids, or so called “X - Netters” were terrorists because they would not go along with the DHS’s absurd security measures that violated their privacy rights. He believes this because the media portrays an explanation and helps settle the fear he’s feeling inside. Propaganda can be very strong an affect a whole society’s views on conflict. There are many types of propaganda. The very remixes and comic that we made for class are one example. This theme is a real issue today. It does not only occur in the US, but also in other countries.
