Julia's bitstrip
Since I read the book 1984 by George Orwell in high school, I felt I had a strong knowledge of the connections between Little Brother and 1984. I displayed three of the most obvious ones in my comic. I did this to simply introduce the relationship the two books. With further readings, I am sure I will be able to see even stronger, deeper connections. The first similarity is that the main character of 1984is named Winston. Marcus Yallow, the main character of Little Brother, uses the alias, w1n5ton. Secondly, in 1984 the almighty dictator is referred to as Big Brother. So, the title Little Brother is literal. And lastly, Marcus feels like his privacy has been invaded when he gets questioned for using his BART card at odd hours, which means they had been monitoring him all the time. Winston, in 1984, feels as though the telescreens are a complete invasion of privacy because they watch you all day, everyday.
