I did this interpretation of the scene in Little Brother when the bomb goes of and people are being taken away in white trucks. The scene reminded me of the invasion in the movie District 9. However, it is ironic because in District 9 the invaders are aliens. Here, they are our own government coming and taking over a city, claiming it is for the citizen's protection.
I chose for the city to be New York because it is my home city and because they have had their own very real scare. Our entire country did, but the terrorist attack happened there. The people of the city should be very understanding of increased security precautions. However, when a spaceship arrives over the city, the citizens' initial reaction is to run because it is another terrorist attack. this was meant to be an ironic interpretation because in fact, they aren't terrorists, they are here to "protect" the people. But are they really protecting them? or scaring them more?
