I used the comic to highlight the paradoxes in Marcus’ character. He begins the book, priding himself on his perception, and ability to manipulate. After being traumatized, and awakened to his lack of actual control, he fights back. With all of his formerly impressive abilities of perception, he decides that the smart move is to try to mess with the Department of Homeland Security. He does this through admittedly very clever and intelligent means, but of course missing the obvious and basic point, that he is facing an adversary known world wide for its intelligence, strength, and often-overzealous brutality.
