I remember breathing a sigh of relief when Prof. Marc said we wouldn't be needing any HTML knowledge for our hyper texts. Dreamweaver was simple to work with, and I managed to get all the basics down. After looking at 20 websites with Beautiful Topography, I thought that it was impossible for me to do anything that great. How do they get it to look so pretty? This was one of my favorite typography websites. So I found out I'm not graphic-designer material. After changing fonts multiple times, I finally stuck with one that was easy to read and simple in looks, because I wanted to make my page neat and easy to navigate through. I also changed the background about 50 times because none of the patterns and colors I tried really appealed to me. I finally found a background that I liked, when I was listening to Hot Air Balloon by Owl City, which is why I figured out how to add videos to add a video of the song to my page. It inspired me to change the bland green background I had to something playful and happy. I'm also quite proud of the content in my hypertext. It was something I've wanted to do for a long time, but never had the chance to, or didn't know how to. I needed something to commemorate my group of high school friends after we've all separated into different universities, and I think my friends needed it too. After I showed them the webpage via facebook and skype, they smiled and laughed and remembered the good times. It helped us reaffirm that we'd be there for each other, even though there were miles and miles between us. I liked this writing project because it is more personal than the academic writing I have been doing for a long time. The topic is actually something that means something to me, instead of a prompt like “To what extent did the civil rights movement progress from the 1960's to the 1970's”, etc etc. Even though it was a lot of painstaking grueling work figuring out dreamweaver, I had a lot of fun creating something that made me happy. And here it is. :]
