After deciding to include a section labeled “Others’ Stories,” I considered condensing the “Risk” and “Prevention” sections into one. I decided against this because I feel that there was too much information to include on one page without making it too cumbersome. I also felt that they were both very important topics and both needed to be accessible from the home page. I added more pictures to the “Prevention” page because I felt as though a dry list of things to avoid would not capture the interest of the reader. I felt that this page needed to be especially memorable because the information is so important.
I chose the font for the title and subtitles because they reminded me of handwriting. I wanted the website to have a personal feel so that visitors to the site would feel welcome. I know how important and delicate the content of the site can be, so my aim is to make women understand that this is not simply another medical report, but a site created by someone who understands the content on a personal level. I also chose to emphasize certain words with a different font because I found that large paragraphs of text were not aesthetically pleasing. I also used the different text to emphasize words or phrases that I found particularly interesting or important, but I was careful not to emphasize too many words in order to make sure the emphasis meant something.
Making the majority of the site pink was an obvious choice for me since it is the color associated with breast cancer. I decided to add a picture to the background of the current link because when I was testing the website I found that this makes it much easier for the user to distinguish which page they are currently viewing.
Sites that I used for inspiration include the following:
GOOD - I liked the simiple and easy to use style. The title was clear, prominent, and easy to understand.
VigetInspire - The beautiful title image draws the viewer to the top of the page and emphasizes the title.
CSS Nature - The rich color on this site makes it very aesthetically pleasing as well as staying true to the content of the site.
The New York Times - The straightforward links on this site make it easy to navigate through..
Jason Santa Maria - The different font sizes and colors inspired me to use different font styles within my site.
